Community Car Seat Check Program
Third Thursday of every month from 2pm until 5pm
At the Bay Village Fire Department 28100 Wolf Road
A recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that an estimated 46% of car seats and booster seats are misused in a way that could reduce their effectiveness. In an effort to help parents ensure their child’s safety when in a vehicle, UH St. John Medical Center has partnered with local Fire Departments to offer a car seat safety program. They have trained a number of nurses, healthcare workers, and trauma coordinators as certified Child Safety Passenger Technicians (CPST) who can help communities provide parents and caregivers a resource to get their car seats checked or to help them install car seats before (or after) a child is born.
The CPSTs will check the seat, show parents and caregivers how it works, install it, and answer any questions, including how long children should be in the car seat and when to move to them on to the booster seat level. The goal is to ensure that parents and caregivers are educated and comfortable so they can install the car seat themselves.
